The Varsity Prep U18 team finished up a successful weekend at the PSHF Burlington Showcase on Saturday with two wins
In the first game, the boys were up against Blythe Academy Red Star team, which is made up of the top U18 players in China. It was a fantastic game and both teams battled back and forth for the duration. David Gabriel-Cote potted the first goal of the game midway through the second period. After being down 2-1 with under 5 minutes to play, Newbridge responded with 3 unanswered goals from William Neault, Gabriel-Cote (game winning goal), and Alberto Pison to take the game 4-2. Victor Desjardins was great between the pipes to record the win.
After a quick bite to eat, the boys were back on the ice, this time against a familiar (and tough) opponent, Everest Academy. After falling behind 1-0, the boys once again rallied, scoring 5 unanswered goals to take the game 5-1. Goal scorers were Noah Adams (with the first two), Kurtis Lang, Christopher Piche, and Noah Locke. Gavin McGinn was very solid in the crease to seal the victory.
“Overall, I am pleased with our weekend. Our first 5 periods were certainly not out best, but in our final 7, I thought we made some great strides. We got contributions from everybody throughout the weekend. However, we are still early in the season, and we have a lot of work left to do. We will put in a solid two weeks of practice in preparation before heading to Boston in a few weeks for the Benton Classic.” – Matt Anthony, Head Coach
