Taylor Marney commits to Newbridge Academy Female Midget Varsity
At a very early age, Taylor Marney could be found on the ice with a devoted set of parents who dedicated their early mornings to assist her with learning how to skate. From there, she began her journey playing hockey with the boys for 1 year before transitioning over to Ringette. Her continued path of Ringette eventually lead her to winning the Eastern Finals with the Moncton Stingers. However, at the age of 12 Taylor still had much interest in the game of hockey, so with that decided to go back to her roots.
Devoting her summers to hockey camps and extra training gave her the added skills and confidence to develop her game. Over the next few years, Marney showed tremendous improvement and enjoyed success on all levels. A highlight for her was representing her province with the Moncton Midget AAA Rockets at the National Female Midget Championships in Red Deer, Alberta. This incredible opportunity provided her the chance to learn from and compete amongst some of the best in Canada.
“If it weren’t for my parents and grandfather, I would have not been able to receive this amazing opportunity to attend Newbridge Academy to not only further my education, but to also develop my skills on the ice. This year, my goal is to be able to make an impact on others in a positive way either on or off the ice” – Taylor
Balancing high academics and hockey is her next challenge and Taylor feels that Newbridge Academy will help her achieve this. Taylor plans to attend University and study in Kinesiology and someday become a physiotherapist on a competitive hockey team.
“Taylor has been in the sight lines for years for our female program. Today, we welcome her to officially join our school. She plays a steady controlled game and as a player in her final year of Midget, she will be a stabilizing force on the back end. I am very happy that we have Taylor on board”- Paddy Flynn, Head Coach, Director of Varsity Hockey Programs, Newbridge Academy
