Newbridge welcomes Carter Murchison to Pee Wee Major Varsity
Newbridge Academy is pleased to announce Carter Murchison as the newest member of the Varsity Peewee Major program. Born in Summerside, PEI, Carter is a fun, hard working student-athlete with a passion for sports; especially hockey. He will be joining his older brother Parker, who will be starting his 2nd year at Newbridge as a soccer student-athlete.
His hockey career began early as he talked his way into his first summer hockey camp at NAIT at 3 years of age. The following year he started minor hockey in St. Albert, AB. After his family moved back to the Maritimes, he went on to play 7 seasons with the Bedford Blues here in NS. Last fall, he played with the Bedford Blues Peewee AAA team. They ended their season with a league championship and had a great showing at provincials
As a winger for the NS Prospects, Carter wrapped up his 4th successful spring season with the team. He also joined the UNB Varsity Red at the Montreal Meltdown. Although Carter decided to take a break from hockey this summer, he was not going to pass up an invitation to attend Hockey NS’ High Performance Camp in Antigonish, which was definitely a highlight.
Carter is a coachable player and a great teammate. He shows superb leadership both on and off the ice, and looks to bring that with him to Newbridge: “I am pretty excited to join the Varsity program at Newbridge this fall. It was a tough decision but I believe it will give me a lot of new opportunities. I hear the Newbridge coaching staff are fun but tough, which is perfect for me. I know and/or played with most of the players on the team so that makes it a lot easier. They have a great travel schedule planned which is fun for us”.
Away from hockey, Carter loves to hit the slopes any chance he gets in the winter. Boating is a passion he shares with his family and tries to get the PEI any chance he gets. He also plays soccer and baseball in the summer. Carter feels it is time to take his hockey to the next level and he believes that attending Newbridge and playing for their Varsity team is a step in the right direction for his personal development both on and off the ice.
“We are pleased to have Carter join our program and attend our school. His brother came last year and thrived in this environment as I am sure that Carter will as well. When I first met him I thought, there is a bright young man and he knows what he wants. The kind of student-athlete that we look for here are Newbridge Academy.”
