Newbridge Academy’s 04 PeeWee Varsity Hockey take home Championship in Philadelphia
Philadelphia IceWorks Tournament Nov. 25-27th
The Newbridge Academy 2004 Pee Wee team had a very successful weekend at the IceWorks Thanksgiving Tournament in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 04 PeeWee’s went 3 and 0 in round robin play, with decisive victories over Warwick Wildcats, Delco Phantoms and Brick Hockey Club, to clinch the #1 seed in the East Division. This set up a Sunday morning semi-final match against the #2 seed, Philadelphia Revolution, from the West Division. The 04 PeeWee’s prevailed in this game as well, putting them into the finals and a date with our very own PeeWee 05 squad, who had convincingly won their semi final match up against the Delco Phantoms.
The 05’s brought energy off some of their best performances of the season and gave the 04’s all they could handle. The score was tight throughout most of the contest but a determined 04 squad eventually turned back the 05’s to claim the championship.
The hockey and championship not withstanding, the Friday night visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and of course the “Rocky” statue, provided what will certainly be lifelong memories for players, coaches and parent’s alike.
Coaches McLean and MacEachern were extremely pleased with the team’s efforts, noting that they dictated play with skating speed, crisp passing, well structured systems and timely goaltending to achieve their success over the course of the tournament. They were equally as impressed with the team’s comportment in the hotel and restaurants, as well as on what was a very long bus trip.
