Newbridge Academy Welcomes Goaltender Molly Lenihan to the Female Varsity Line-up
Hailing from West Chezzetcook, NS, Molly Lenihan returns to Newbridge Academy for her 6th year. Molly spent her 1st year in Peewee AA playing boys hockey with the Cole Harbour Wings, followed up with a very successful 2nd year in Peewee AAA with the Newbridge Varsity Peewee Major program. This year, Lenihan will make the transition to female hockey joining the Newbridge Academy Bantam Varsity program this September.
“I have coached Molly in the past in various programs and know that she will bring a solid and calming game to the table for her team. This is a characteristic that all goaltenders need to have in order to instil confidence in the team that plays in front of them, Molly has that ability. I am looking forward to Molly making the jump to the female program and taking this opportunity to start to build on a bright future.” – Paddy Flynn, Head Coach, Director of Varsity Hockey Programs, Newbridge Academy
“Last year was one of the best hockey experiences of my life and I enjoyed being on the ice with my team every day. Newbridge is like a family, going from the classroom to the rink. The road trips were my favourite part, being able to represent my school across Canada and the United States was great.” – Molly
When Molly is not found between the pipes, she enjoys using her spare time playing golf, softball and paddling. She also has a passion for singing, dancing and painting. Lenihan is an all-around student athlete that is considered a positive influence on those who surround her. As a volunteer junior coach with the Eastern Shore Mariners, Molly helps young goalies strive for excellence in a game she loves. Future goals for Molly are to attend University and study to become a Sports Physiotherapist and one day play hockey for Team Canada.
Parents Pete & Carla – “We made the choice many years ago to take advantage of what Newbridge offers with balanced educational experience for a student athlete. Molly was proud to wear a Newbridge jersey last year with the Peewee Major program, and we are excited for her transition to the female hockey team where she will be joining the ice with many longtime friends as well as friends she has yet to meet!”
