Newbridge Academy Welcomes Carly Drake to Female Bantam Varsity line-up
Carly Drake from Dartmouth, NS is very excited to join the roster for the Bantam Female Varsity team this coming fall.
Up until this coming year, Carly played her minor hockey for the Dartmouth Whalers/Metro East Inferno where last season she co-captained her Peewee AA team to a bronze medal in the provincials. An offensively gifted player, Carly sees the ice very well and is equally strong and accurate while shooting or passing the puck. She has great vision and is an excellent stick handler. When not playing hockey, Drake also enjoys playing soccer for her Dartmouth United team and paddling for the Mic Mac AAC.
“I have instructed Carly for many years while at Newbridge Academy as a student-athlete and it has become very clear on how much Carly has grown in ability and in confidence on and off the ice. I am looking forward to having her continue in the bantam varsity program this year. She is a welcomed addition to the program.” – Paddy Flynn, Head Coach, Director of Varsity Hockey Program, Newbridge Academy
Being a current student of Newbridge Academy, Carly knows the balance and dedication it takes to be successful in the classroom and on the ice. Moving into her 5th year with the school, she maintains a high average and is working hard to continue her path to becoming an elite student-athlete. Carly aspires to work towards her goal of playing NCAA hockey while pursuing studies in criminal law.
“I’m excited to play Varsity hockey with a group of talented and dedicated girls. I’m looking forward to being around the other players and growing with them academically as well as athletically. I’ve always loved playing hockey and hope to be able to use it to my advantage after High School to help me get into a great College or University. Hockey has always been very important to me and I’m ready to take it to the next level playing for my school.”- Carly
Former Coach John Ferguson said “Carly has soft hands and demonstrates excellent hockey IQ. She has deceptive speed and power which was key during back checks down the stretch.”
“We are so proud of Carly for taking this next step in her development with Newbridge Academy. We are very familiar with what the school has to offer and feel very fortunate for Carly to be part of this prestigious program. We know that she is in great hands academically and athletically and look forward to the year ahead”.- Dana & Nicole Drake
