Newbridge Academy U18 Player Announcement – Ralfs Tods Vilcins
The Newbridge Academy Varsity Prep team is proud to announce the signing of their newest European addition, Ralfs Tods Vilcins. Ralfs hails from Riga, Latvia and has been playing hockey since a young age.
Ralfs, a defenceman, grew up playing in the HK Daugava organization where he was always a leader amongst his peers, often serving as team captain. Eventually, Ralfs made the move to play for power house HS Riga team. First, it was at the U-14 level, where he once again served as team captain. He would go on to play at the U-15, U-16, and U-18 levels with HS Riga, playing in leagues in both Latvia and Russia. He was an integral part of HS Riga winning the 2016 U-16 Latvian national championship, as well as the 2017 U-18 Latvian national championship
Ralfs comes from a very supportive family, who want to see him enjoy academic and athletic success in Canada. He is excited to come to Newbridge Academy to improve is English and his hockey skills.
“I want to come to Canada because I want to become better at hockey, and hopefully, reach the professional level. I chose Newbridge Academy because I want to become a better hockey player, but also a better student and human being. I’m excited to be a student-athlete at Newbridge Academy!”- Ralfs Tods Vilcins.
Newbridge has had players from multiple European countries, including Slovakia, Serbia, Sweden, and Denmark, but Ralfs will be the first from Lativa!
“I had the chance to meet and watch Ralfs during my time working at a development camp in Lativa this summer. Right from the beginning, his hockey IQ and vision on the ice jumped out at me. He is not the biggest or fastest guy out there, but he is smart, makes a good first pass, and has a great stick defensively. He is very motivated to come over here and make the most of his opportunities. He will be a fantastic addition to our blueline, and I’m looking forward to working with him daily.”-Matt Anthony, Head Coach.
