Newbridge Academy – Remembrance Day 2016
Today our students held commemorative ceremonies at each campus. These ceremonies allow passing on the traditions of remembrance that are an important way of showing our appreciation to the Veterans of Canada, and their families, for the losses and sacrifices they have endured.
Our Elementary students sang O’Canada followed by a moment of silence. Rob Reid, a Newbridge parent, played the Last Post on the Trumpet. The Junior Primary and Primary classes recited a Poppy Poem together. There were Remembrance Day poems read by Grade 4’s and Flanders Fields by Michael O’Brien and Dawson Blanchard in Grade 5. Our guest speaker was Major Seaman Jennifer Krick who is currently stationed on the HMS. Students were complimented on their good behaviour.
Jr/Sr High Service
Student Council President Maria Morefield introduced guest speaker Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Pete Lenihan today at our East Hants Remembrance Day ceremony. Chief Lenihan spoke to our students and staff about the importance of recognizing and remembering those who have served for our freedom.
Lead by Headmaster Jason Wolfe, the ceremony opened with Oh Canada sung by grade 6 students, Bella House and Molly Lenihan, with our very own Matt Higgs on the keyboard. Patrick McInnis presented an original composition, while Zach Jenkins and Matt Duggan read Remembrance Day inspired pieces.
Newbridge Academy appreciates all those who have served and are currently serving in our military.
Thank you to all our students, teachers, parents, participants and Veterans that attended.
