Newbridge Academy Pee Wee Major Varsity Program is happy to announce goaltender Lane George
Lane is from Belnan, Nova Scotia. He is a fun loving, hard working student-athlete with a huge personality and a natural athlete. Lane has been a proud East Hants Penguin for 7 years and owes his success in hockey to those who’s coached him during that time. Lane would like to give a special thank you to his goalie coach since the beginning, Kody Blois, for his patience and commitment in helping Lane become the goalie he is today.
Lane first stepped on the ice at the age of two and was full out skating when he was three. He began the hockey initiation program when he was five and made the Novice Intermediate team at the age of seven. Although a defenceman, during that year, Lane took his turn being goalie. With natural ability and talent Lane was called up to the Novice Advanced team to play a game against the undefeated Acadia team. Lane shut Acadia down 3-0 and thus began his full time goalie career.
Lane’s first full year of being a goalie in Atom AAA, Lane and his teammates lost the gold medal game in provincials losing 3-2 to TASA. Although coming second, being a first time goalie, silver was an honour for Lane. In 2016, the East Hants PeeWee AAA Penguins won the Provincial Championships and Lane (being a first year on the team) was named top goalie for the tournament followed by being named Top Goalie at the Atlantic Championships in April.
Lane was selected by Jon Sim to play spring hockey with the Raiders for the past couple years. He has also traveled with Jon to ‘The Show’ tournament in Minnesota last June. Lane’s talent has lead him to some amazing opportunities which has now lead us here to Newbridge. He is excited to see what Newbridge has to offer and what the next chapter holds for him, but he knows with hard work and dedication he can do anything.
When Lane isn’t playing hockey in the winter and spring, you can find him playing AAA baseball for the Dartmouth Arrows where he plays 3rd base, left field and catcher. So far in 34 games played Lane has 101 plate appearances and 90 official at bats with 35 hits. His batting average is .389 and his OBP is.564. He also has 27 RBI’s and 2 out of the park home runs. He hopes to include baseball as a part of his Newbridge experience.
Lane is a very coachable young man and a wonderful teammate. With being invited to Newbridge, Lane’s dreams are to play Jr. hockey and/or be drafted to the QMJHL and the NHL.
