Newbridge Academy is very excited to announce the addition of Ephram McNutt and Ian Wall to the Major Bantam program for the upcoming season
Ephram is a defensemen from Truro, Nova Scotia and has played PeeWee AAA in Truro this past season where he was a major contributor offensively and defensively. Hockey is not Ephram’s only strength, as he is also a very strong student that demonstrates a love of learning. “He has a commitment to acquiring new knowledge that is unfounded for a kid of his age,” said teacher Emily Wheeler.
Coach Benedict is eager to have a player of Ephram’s ability join his team. His hockey skills combined with his infectious personality will be a strong building block for the team this year.“Ephram epitomizes what it means to be a student athlete at Newbridge. He behaves well beyond his years and will truly help to build this program both academically and athletically for years to come,” said Coach Brandon Benedict.
“We as a team want to encourage our defence to join the rush and play on our toes, closing gaps and not allowing teams enter our zone; Ephram and Ian will help facilitate this objective. Ephram plays the game from the back end with excellent vision and an ability to join the rush at ease. His natural instinct with the puck combined with his ability to read the game are assets very hard to teach and will both help generate offence from the back end,” said Coach Benedict.
Ian is from Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, and will be attending his first year at Newbridge Academy. He is looking forward to playing hockey with a group of players and coaches that are 100% dedicated to the sport and truly love the game of hockey. He was recently on a team that won the CCM Boston Elite Invitational and hopes to win more tournaments with the Major Bantam team.
“Ian’s best asset is his overall skating ability. When you combine that with his willingness to compete and win battles, he is an ideal player. He has a great attitude and works very hard on the ice, which is a positive attribute for a young player. I’m very excited to be working with Ian this year as I feel he will be a major contributor for us this season,” said Coach Benedict.
The Major Bantam team will kick off its season with exhibition games versus The Mount Academy in PEI on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 12pm and 430pm.
