Newbridge Academy Female Varsity Players set the stage at the 2017 Atlantic Challenge Cup
Moncton, NB hosted the 22nd Annual Challenge Cup once again this year. With the venue filled with family, friends and fans, these young athletes did not disappoint. It was a great weekend of hockey for Atlantic Canada which showcased some of the regions most talented players. Some of which include Newbridge Academy’s Stephanie Leger ( Team NB U18 ), Sophie Bujold ( Team NB U16 ), Emma Bishop ( Team NB U16 ) and Grace Smith ( Team NF U16).
With Team New Brunswick U18 and U16 taking home the Gold honors, while team Newfoundland collected the Bronze, it also came with a few memorable highlights.
Stephanie Leger- as one of the youngest players on the team, Leger was a solid and reliable defenseman. Winning all her battles and ability to carry the puck consistently out of her end zone was key in the success of this U18 team. Team NB U18 defeated PEI in the final for the Gold victory.
Sophie Bujold- Assisting her team with a 4-0-1 overall record, Sophie had an amazing weekend of hockey. Over a 5 game spread, she scored 3 goals including 1 game winning goal.
Emma Bishop- displaying a strong desire to compete, Emma delivered a great performance over the entire weekend. Representing NB in the final against team NS, Emma scored 2 goals and collected game MVP honors.
Grace Smith- named assistant Captain for Team NL, Grace proved to be a leader on the ice. While setting up goals and drawing penalties, she maintained consistent throughout the tournament weekend. Grace also received the MVP during the semi final game.
