Katie Hagen has participated in all 4 years of baseball at Newbridge Academy bringing thirteen years of playing experience to the program as a right-handed pitcher and middle infielder.
In these thirteen years Katie has been a dedicated player with the Dartmouth Arrows AAA club programs, the Nova Scotia Provincial Female programs and the Canadian Women’s National Team program.
As a Dartmouth Arrow, Katie was instrumental in helping her teams win 4 Provincial Championships then go on to compete in 6 Atlantic Championships since 2010. Her hard work and passion for the game has afforded her the honor to play for team NS for four years in the 16U group and the last two years for the 21U team.
In 2016 Katie was named to the Baseball Canada 20U National Team who went on to win gold at the inaugural 20U International Cup in Santo Domingo, DR. Later that year she was selected to participate with the Baseball Canada Prospects Team to compete at Baseball Canada’s Senior Women’s National Championship giving younger players a chance to experience the highest level of female baseball in the country. Her performance at three national championships in 2016 was enough to earn a spot as the youngest pitcher to ever be selected to the Women’s National Team at age 15. With Team Canada she pitched at the WBSC Women’s World Cup of Baseball in Gijgan, South Korea where Canada went on to win a silver medal against international powerhouse Japan.
Katie has been awarded countless Game MVP’s and tournament awards in her years of play. Some notables are, Baseball Nova Scotia’s 2012 and 2014 Minor league Female Player of the year, 2016 Major Female Player of the year, in 2017 she was a finalist for the Sport Nova Scotia Female Team Athlete of the year and at the 2017 16U tournament was named to the all-star team as a top shortstop and top Offensive Player where she led her team in RBI’s.
In a coaching role, Katie has embraced the opportunity of sharing her playing experience with younger players. She has assisted Baseball Nova Scotia with numerous female player clinics throughout the province helping to expose younger athletes to the game of baseball. She assisted the High-Performance Female Coaching Staff with 14U female workouts through the winter months. At the 14U Girls Atlantic Championship in the fall of 2017 Katie helped coach Nova Scotia Team Red to a silver medal.
As student, Katie was the proud recipient of the prestigious Newbridge Academy Chairman’s Award in 2015, her first year at Newbridge Academy, as a truly well-rounded student athlete living up to the values of the school. More recently Katie became the first recipient of one of the six academic scholarships announced by Newbridge Academy. The Malcolm Smith Academic Scholarship was awarded for exemplary academic performance.
Katie looks forward to future baseball and academic opportunities resulting from her time at Newbridge Academy.
