Newbridge Major Midget Team adds three more- Dawson Crane, Michael McQuaid and Cale MacLaughlin
Newbridge Academy’s Major Midget Team adds three more top players with the additions of Dawson Crane from Bay Robert’s, Newfoundland, Michael McQuaid from Meadowbank, PEI and Cale MacLaughlin from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Dawson will be beginning his first year at Newbridge Academy in grade 10. Originally from Newfoundland, Dawson was the defenceman of the year for the NL Major Bantam AAA Hockey League last year. He is excited to play with a new team this year and meet new people. His goal is to consistently play at the highest level possible each year, knowing that this will continue to challenge him and ultimately push him to achieve his goals for his hockey career. This year, he is a draft contender for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, so he plans to work hard to stay on the radar. He also has been named to the Newfoundland pre-tournament roster for the Canada Winter Games. The final roster will be determined in late September for the tournament which will be held in Red Deer, Alberta in February 2019.
“Dawson is coming to Newbridge Academy after a great Major Bantam season in Newfoundland,” said Major Midget Head Coach Olivier Filion. “I had the chance to see Dawson play at the 2018 Montreal Meltdown and loved his compete level. There’s no question that he will be on the radar for the LHJMQ draft next summer and he will bring some size and a physical component to our team.”
Michael will also be starting his first year at Newbridge Academy in grade 10. Originally from PEI, he is excited about the prospect of meeting new friends and playing a ton of hockey. He would like to play professional hockey in the future like his cousin Adam McQuaid. “I had the chance to see Micheal at Andrews Showcase in PEI in June. I see a lot of potential in Micheal’s game. Having the chance to work with Defence coach Cody Anthony and Strength and Conditioning coach J.P. McCallum this upcoming season will definitely bring his game to another level,” said Coach Filion.
Cale is another new student in grade 10 this year. He is looking forward to playing on a new hockey team, meeting new people and making new friends. He would like to get drafted to the QMJHL or play NCAA or CIS Hockey. Ultimately, he would like to play professional hockey. He credits one of his biggest achievements in hockey so far as being asked to come to Newbridge Academy. “Cale is coming to Newbridge Academy with the mindset of getting better everyday. He wants to develop into an all around player and show the scouts that he can play at the next level. He wants to get the chance to be drafted in the LHJMQ but also wants to open as many options as possible. Our program’s focus is to give him the tools to make those goals a reality, and I know that Cale is ready to put in the work to make that happen,” said Coach Filion.
