Newbridge Academy Press Release: Olivier Filion Promoted to Athletic Director
Newbridge Academy is very happy to announce the promotion of Olivier Filion to Athletic Director. Olivier has been active in this roll since early November, and is successfully shaping the future of the athletic programs at Newbridge while continuing his role as head coach of the U16 Major Midget Boys Hockey Team.
Coach Filion is originally from Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, but has spent most of his life traveling to play hockey. Drafted in the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League by the Bathurst Titans, Filion went on to play four years in the QMJHL and is still the all-time leading scorer for the Titans. Filion then went on attend NHL and AHL training camps and played professional hockey for ten years for teams all over the world from Alaska to France.
Coach Filion began his coaching career as a Player Assistant Coach with the Missouri Mavericks in the CHL. He was head coach in the LNAH in Quebec before deciding that his passion was not only to coach hockey, but to teach the game to the next generation. He then coached a Midget AA team in Sainte-Agathe, Quebec to the number one team in the province.
Coach Filion is in his second year at Newbridge, and is excited to play a part in the organization of the program as a whole. “I am excited to take a lead in the behind the scenes decisions and organization of the varsity team programs,” said Filion when asked about his new role.
“Olivier has excelled over the past few months taking on the challenges that go along with the Athletic Director title. He has completely reorganized our programs to allow them to operate efficiently and within budget,” says Newbridge CEO Trevor MacEachern. “We are very excited to see where Olivier’s passion and commitment to detail will take our Varsity Programs.”
