Newbridge Academy is pleased to announce Riverview, NB Sophie Bujold to the Female Midget Varsity team
One of seven brothers and sisters, Sophie Bujold has had an immense amount of hockey influence in her young life. A native of Riverview New Brunswick, she grew up with a house full of role models starting with her father Val. A veteran hockey coach, he would teach her the hard work and dedication it takes to be the very best athlete she could be. These lessons were not lost on Sophie and her siblings. Her older sister Sara, who Sophie also attributes to her success, is another important fixture in her love of the game. Currently, Sara who plays for St F.X X-Women’s team, was player of the year in the CIS (U sports) 2016-2017 and also led the AUS in scoring last year and recently part of Hockey Canada’s U22 Development Camp.
A power forward with great hands and tremendous vision on the ice, Sophie Bujold will join the roster this September with the Midget Varsity team. A gifted offensive player, she carries the puck with confidence and ease. An enthusiastic Bujold has indicated that she looks forward to the chance to compete in the Junior Women’s Hockey League this season as a first year Midget player alongside her new team. Her solid hockey IQ and natural ability to generate offence is a welcomed addition to the program.
“My long term goals are to attend University and be able to play hockey at a highly competitive level. I believe that with the added support of Newbridge Academy I will now be able to reach those goals”- Sophie
Sophie played her last season with the NB Bantam AAA East Rockets, and most recently was selected to represent her New Brunswick U16 team in the Atlantic Cup this October. Collecting points and making a name for herself on the ice, Sophie is also well respected off the ice as a teammate and student. Entering in to her Grade 10 year, she looks forward to meeting new friends and teachers while reconnecting with some former teammates. The anticipation of her arrival is infectious, and we look forward to having her join Newbridge Academy program.
“I have had a number of opportunities to see Sophie play in the past year and it is easy to recognize that in the past she has had great exposure to the game. She is skilled and plays a good brand of hockey with a little edge to her game. I am very happy to have a player of Sophie’s ability at our school and in our program. She will be a great fit with some great talent that we have assembled here for our first year of operation of our midget female program.” – Paddy Flynn, Head Coach, Midget Female Hockey, Newbridge Academy
