Newbridge Academy’s female Bantam and Midget varsity programs recently travelled to Merrimack, MA to compete in the season opener for the JWHL. Both brand new teams to the league, our players displayed integrity, hard work and school pride over the course of the weekend.
Competing against some very strong teams, the girls battled it out in their respective divisions.
The Midget program missing a total of 5 players due to their commitment to the ACC’s, were faced with adversity at all angles. Relying on each other’s strengths, trusting the systems and the assistance from a few Bantam players, they worked hard towards a common goal, to develop as a team and finish strong. The Midget female team went 1-4-0. Next up, the U16 team will make a return visit to Boston Oct.27-29th to compete once again in regular season league play.
Brand new to the JWHL this season, the U14 division showed great talent across the board. Newbridge Academy Bantams went an impressive 2-3-0 after playing together for the very first time. Competing in a 5 game spread, our bantams also stepped up to the challenge to compete alongside their senior U16 teammates. Despite the challenges they faced, these girls displayed a “no quit” attitude. Next up for the U14 team, a 3 game Island exhibition series Oct.21-23rd.
“It was a good first time out this season in the JWHL. It was great that the girls competed at both levels and see them all learn more about themselves over the course of the weekend. The midget team was shorthanded with some key players at the ACC, overall the girls had an excellent experience for both the bantams and the midgets and believe we will be much better prepared in future games. I’m happy with the level and the commitment that we have to improving moving forward.” – Coach, Paddy Flynn
