JP – Grade 2 Skate program
Attention Newbridge JP-Gr 2 Families:
We are excited to get our skating program off the ground tomorrow. We will have a wide variety of skaters in our group and staff will use the first session to observe students for group placement.
All students must have skates (ensure they have been sharpened), a CSA approved helmet (we strongly recommend a face mask as well), gloves or mittens (hockey gloves are also encouraged for increased safety), warm clothes, and a bag to hold all of their skating equipment.
We strongly recommend that parents label all of their student belongings. Our staff look to ensure equipment is not left behind, however, Newbridge Academy is not responsible for lost equipment.
Transportation to 4-pad:
Families may choose to take their student directly to the 4-pad. Families choosing to do this should plan to be there no earlier than 8:15am. Staff supervision starts at 8:15am. Students will be transported back to Newbridge following the skate program.
Students dropped at the school or those arriving on Newbridge transportation will be driven to and from the 4-pad. Students being dropped at the school should be there by 8:00am. Families are responsible to get their students to the 4-pad if they miss the scheduled transportation.
Students new to skating will participate in an informal program designed to allow students to explore the ice and get acclimated to skating. Please note that this is not a formal lesson. Staff will supervise the group and our focus will be on ensuring a safe experience for the students and to help them grow more comfortable in their skating experience.
Established skaters will be placed in groups, based on ability, by our hockey department staff. Skating instruction will be done on a weekly basis and will be a combination of drills and games to assist students in their development.
We are looking forward to getting this program started!
